HRIS consultants liaise between the Human Resources Department (HRD) and the Information Systems Department (ISD) to optimise the IT needs of HR teams. As part of their role, they analyse HR requirements and then select, configure and integrate the most appropriate tools into the existing IT ecosystem.
As well as the technical aspects, they are responsible for training users in the new systems. Unlike the HRIS project manager, who oversees the execution and coordination of the project internally, the HRIS consultant provides specialist expertise by customising the tools to the HR requirements of several clients.
HRIS consultants must be proficient in HRIS software and tools, such as talent management systems and payroll software. They have programming and database management skills, so they are comfortable configuring the company's information systems. They are familiar with HR and payroll regulations. Finally, project management skills are required to steer HRIS projects from design to delivery.
