The HRIS project manager liaises between the Human Resources Department (HRD) and the Information Systems Department (ISD). They act as an intermediary, translating the needs of the HR Department into technical solutions developed by the IT Department. They oversee the entire project, from design to deployment, including monitoring progress and managing resources.
The HRIS project manager coordinates efforts, manages deadlines and budgets, and ensures that the initial specifications are respected in the delivery of IT projects. Unlike the HRIS consultant, who assists several clients, the HRIS project manager concentrates on a single internal project. He or she leads meetings, resolves technical problems, optimises processes and trains end users.
The HRIS project manager has a good knowledge of the various human resources management software packages, linked to payroll or recruitment, such as Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, ADP or Oracle HCM.
It is also important to be able to manage databases, have a basic knowledge of programming and understand the principles of IT security in order to manage information systems.
An HRIS project manager must have excellent interpersonal skills to work with a variety of stakeholders. They must be able to adapt to changing contexts and have good organisational skills to manage several tasks simultaneously.
In addition, communication skills to convey clear information to human resources and other teams are important. Finally, a strategic vision will help to align HRIS solutions with the company's needs and objectives.
HRIS project managers require a degree ( bac +4 or bac +5 ) in IT, human resources or project management. Specialised training in HR information systems is an advantage.
HRIS project managers can specialise in HR-related positions such as HR Digital Transformation Manager or Payroll and Personnel Administration Manager. They may also work as HRIS (or IS) consultants in a consultancy firm.
