Project management involves planning, organising and supervising all the stages involved in completing a project, from start to finish. Its aim is to ensure that projects are delivered on time, with the defined resources, within budget and to the expected quality.
The nature of a project can vary from the launch of a new product to the overhaul of an information system or the staging of an event. The project manager must coordinate the teams, manage the risks and anticipate the unexpected to ensure the success of the project.
Project management often relies on the use of specific methodologies, such as Agile or Prince2, which provide structured frameworks for the organisation and execution of tasks.
The project manager is responsible for the proper execution of the project, from the definition of objectives to final delivery. He or she coordinates the teams, draws up schedules, allocates resources and ensures that the project progresses on time and on budget. He is the point of contact between the various stakeholders (customers, technical teams or external partners).
The project manager oversees several projects at once and has a broader strategic vision than the project managers he or she coordinates. They are primarily involved in the planning and launch phase, but remain involved throughout the project life cycle to ensure that the expectations of the stakeholders are met.
The Scrum Master is a facilitator of Agile projects, particularly within the framework of the Scrum methodology. Unlike a traditional project manager, his role is not to lead the team or make decisions about the schedule. The Scrum Master is there to ensure that the development team respects Scrum principles and practices.
The Product Owner (PO) is the guarantor of the product vision. He or she ensures that the development team delivers value at each iteration. Unlike a traditional project manager, the Product Owner is not directly involved in managing technical tasks, but rather in defining priorities and the functionalities to be implemented.
