Role of the Cloud Security Analyst

Cloud Security Analysts specialise in protecting data and infrastructures hosted on cloud computing platforms. They analyse the company's information systems to detect vulnerabilities, assess the risks associated with the Cloud and implement security strategies.

Working with the technical teams and Cloud suppliers, they implement protection tools (firewalls, multi-factor authentication, data encryption, etc.). As security guarantor, they intervene in the event of an incident to analyse the causes, coordinate the response and reinforce defences to prevent further attacks.

Tasks of the Cloud Security Analyst

  • It assesses risks and detects security flaws through audits of Cloud infrastructures.
  • They participate in the implementation of Cloud security architectures.
  • They monitor Cloud systems using monitoring tools to detect suspicious activity and prevent incidents.
  • They will take charge of security incidents and coordinate corrective action.
  • They carry out intrusion tests and simulate attacks to guarantee the robustness of the measures put in place and anticipate vulnerabilities.
  • They advise, support and raise awareness among users of best practice in cybersecurity and the cloud.

Cloud Security Analysts are familiar with the main Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and their security protocols (SSL, TLS, IPSec). They use firewalls, IDS/IPS and IAM solutions to secure Cloud environments. It is capable of carrying out security audits, identifying vulnerabilities and proposing corrective measures in compliance with standards and regulations (ISO 27001, RGPD). Their programming skills (Python, Bash) enable them to automate security tasks, so they can react more quickly to incidents.

Education and training for Cloud Security Analysts

To be eligible for this post, you need a 5-year degree in computer science with a specialisation in cybersecurity or information systems security:

  • Masters specialising in cybersecurity
  • Master's degree in Computer Science with a specialisation in Cloud computing
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Systems, Networks and Virtual Infrastructures
  • Master's degree in Computer Engineering
  • Diplomas from engineering schools offering specialisations in cryptology, IT security or cloud computing.

These courses incorporate a variety of technical skills, such as IT development (Python, C++, PHP), infrastructure and networks, and virtualisation. There are also specialist modules in data management, forensic analysis and cybersecurity strategies.

Career prospects

With several years' experience, Cloud Security Analysts can specialise further in IT security and become SOC analysts, security consultants or security architects. As they continue their professional development, they may progress to positions of responsibility, such as Head of IT Security (CISO) or Director of Information Systems Security (DSSI).
