QA testers (or QA engineers) work in the development of software and digital products. They ensure that the final product complies with functionality, performance and safety requirements.
They carry out a series of tests in a more or less automated way, then identify defects and performance problems to guarantee optimum quality.
As part of this process, they work with developers and project managers on a daily basis. They write detailed reports and suggest improvements to maintain the quality standards of the final product.
A QA tester must be rigorous and have advanced software development skills to carry out manual and automated tests. This technical expertise enables them to design and execute complex test scenarios that faithfully mimic users' interactions with the software.
In addition to their ability to work independently, they must collaborate with development teams, digital project managers and webmasters to integrate feedback and optimise quality processes throughout the product development cycle.
The QA tester must have a good understanding of user behaviour (psychological skills) in order to create effective test scenarios. They must also have good powers of concentration, a command of technical English and good communication skills.
To become a QA tester, you need to have a degree in IT ( bac +3 to bac +5).
CFTL/ISTQB certification is appreciated, as it attests to the candidate's credibility in testing.
QA testers can progress to the position of Lead QA and supervise teams of testers, or move into quality management or project management positions. With sufficient experience, some move on to a career as an independent consultant.
